Child Therapy:
I typically work with children and their families with a focus on attachment and trauma. I am qualified to provide Child Centered Play Therapy and Filial Therapy. As an integrative therapist I provide Therapeutic Life Story Work, Parent and Carer Consultations and Family Sessions (using principles from DDP, Theraplay® and other attachment focused approaches). I also provide assessments of therapeutic need, and direct work around complex issues and care proceedings.

I typically provide interventions within the home or in a playroom and work systemically. This means parents or foster carers are supported to participate and support the child in the therapy, which can enable them to continue the healing process outside of the session. Particular care is taken to ensure that the space is therapeutic and that the session has clear boundaries to contain the child’s emotions. Child-Centred Play Therapy may also be provided in the child’s school, where appropriate.

Consultancy (Caregivers):
My approach is based on theories of Attachment and Child Development. Within a systemic framework, I support parents and foster carers to understand and identify the impact of relational and developmental trauma. Caregivers are supported to provide the children with opportunities and an environment to repair the effects through play, nurture and structure. I have been required to assess carers’ abilities to meet children’s emotional needs and to care for children on a long term basis. I have provided reports to court on a number of occasions, and given evidence when a care plan was contested.

Training:
I provide training and workshops for any professionals working with children and caregivers. The topics have included life story work, direct work with children, allegations against foster carers, and supporting adoptive placements. I am also an Associate Trainer for the Fostering Network Wales.

Consultancy (Practitioners):
I also provide guidance and consultancy to professionals in relation to transitions for children, direct work, and around supporting adoptive parents.

This consultancy is typically provided in connection with either training or casework.

Clinical Supervision:
I currently provide clinical supervision to other BAPT accredited Play Therapists.
